I really like Alexis Mabille's recent haute couture show, it reminds me of a costume my mum made me for the school carnival. Aged six, attending Ecole Alexandre Chevrier and named Poppy in a class of Thibauts, Frederiques and Anne-Laures, I was dressed quite literally as myself. In bean green shoes, green tights pulled up high to my chest, a green turtle neck, shiny painted black face with black twists of thick ribbon stuck to my hairline and giant red, crepe-paper petals encircling my head, it was in no way as chic a vision as Mabille's perfect execution of craft and femininity but it was a funny yet distinct attempts at self assertion. There are days when I still feel I'd like to walk around with petals on my head.

Known to be one of the deadliest and most beautiful places on Earth, the Cueva de los Cristales in Mexico is home to the largest ever found collection of naturally-formed crystals with some reaching heights of 11m and weighing 55 tonnes. Conditions in the cave make it almost impossible to explore with temperatures of 118f and humidity at 99% which scientists say can only be ensured for a maximum of 10mins in the correct body suit and breathing system.

Up and down the length of France, through the trees and up the hills, across the channel and up some more to a little cosy place in England just off centre. I'm feeling heavy and happy in this place, my legs finally unfolded from the continuous back-seat car rides and my belly full of sweet things. It's mostly my head that's full and buzzing, of family and old friends and memories and new thoughts. I've visited all the homes of my life this holiday; the long gone one in small town France, the nearby neighbours' and spiritual second, the burned out family house in the south and the new apartment which ensued, the current Norfolk abode and the adoptive one right here.
